Perseid Meteor Shower Next Week

perseids
Every year, stargazers are treated to a good show of meteors during August as the annual Perseid Meteor shower delights us. This year, the meteor shower (also known as shooting stars) are expected to be at least average.

However, there is one problem. The moon is going to be very bright and will not allow us to see as many meteors as we’d like. The peak of the Perseids is expected to occur late on the nights of August 11 and 12. The moon will probably hinder us from viewing an otherwise exciting display of shooting stars.

Typically, an observer could see as many as 200 meteors per hour in a dark night sky. But this year, it’s highly unlikely that we will see anything like that. Nevertheless, the Perseids will probably still put on a good show in spite of the bright moonlight—especially for patient stargazers. I’d recommend checking them out anyway (at least for an hour or so). Have fun!
